Although some people think the church is rich – this is a misunderstanding. Although a rumour goes round that in St Budeaux we own the Blue Monkey and many other houses – this really is only a rumour. There is no truth in it at all.
Of course we are rich – we know Jesus Christ, and this is the best and greatest thing in the world.
Of course we are rich – we own land. But…that is meaningless! We couldn’t possibly sell the graveyard, and we couldn’t sell the church building.
Therefore in financial terms, the reality is this: we rely on the people of the church to give generously to pay the bills. Yes – it may not have occurred to you, but even churches have to pay water and electricity and gas and insurance and maintenance. And when vicars go shopping, they have to pay at the tills like everyone else.
Many of our church family tithe – that is they give a tenth of their income to work of God in his Church.
Many of our church members use gift aid – so we can claim tax back from the government.
Having said that, if you join us on a Sunday, no plate will be pushed in front of you! Unless it happens to be one of the Sundays when we are especially thinking about money, you may not even hear it mentioned.
You are free to give as much as you like!
We also have specific projects for which we are saving to provide equipment or facilities which will enhance the ministry of the church.
To see more details about these projects please click on the Wish List button
If you would like to make a donation please contact the vicar, Stephen Beach, via the Contact Us page for details of how to do this.
Be generous to God – you will not be disappointed.
